What do you do at Panther Labs?

I am a staff backend engineer and the Team Detections tech lead, where our mission is to enable users to easily configure high-fidelity detections for their data.  We do this by working on open source detections as well as real-time detection features in the core product.

How long have you been at Panther Labs?

I started working at Panther in August 2020.

What’s the most exciting part of your day to day work?

One of the best aspects about working at Panther is that you are surrounded by incredibly smart people.  Every day, I feel like I learn something new from someone in the company, whether they are on the same team or in a completely different part of the panther org.

What has been your key to success at Panther?

My manager and mentors in the company have been key to my success.  They embody the panther value of “seek to understand” – approaching everything with empathy and understanding.

What do you feel makes Panther different from other companies you’ve worked at?

At Panther, part of our culture is being an owner and relentless prioritization.  This translates to an environment where things can change quite quickly – we are constantly growing, scaling, and learning.  Personally, I love this aspect of my job!  Having an iterative approach to everything makes it easier to fix things that aren’t working and elevate approaches that might work more efficiently.

Who inspires you the most? Why?

I draw inspiration in many different ways – whether that be directly from someone or from a good conversation.  If I were to pick a particular person that I find inspirational, it would be one of my best friends.  She has an incredible amount of grit, a natural curiosity, and above all she cares deeply about the people in her life – whether they be her family, her friends, or colleagues.  I aspire to her level of kindness and work ethic.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

On the typical weekend, you can find me in one of the regional parks on a hike.  I love being outdoors, playing tabletop games, and spending time with my family.

If you could visit any city in the world, where would it be? Why?

This might be answering a slightly different question, but I would like to one day visit every national park in the US.  I love hiking, disconnecting, and just generally being in nature.  I really want to make it to Glacier National Park one day, but I’d also like to take the time to visit them all!
